Economy

Energy is a major part of our comfort and ability to be productive.  The price of electricity affects the price of our comfort and products for trade.  A strong connection exists between the economy and energy.  In general, as domestic product increases so does energy demand.  However, to gain economic advantage it is desired to decrease energy cost and decrease the total amount of energy consumption without affecting productivity.  Japan has been remarkable at achieving a higher GDP per capita then the U.S. with nearly half the energy per capita.
